Maine Roller Derby (MRD) is bringing you four dates of heart-pounding, bone-rattling roller derby action at the Portland Expo this spring. This is the league’s second season at the Expo, and it begins on Saturday, April 12th. MRD will be introducing its two hot-off-the-presses and ready to roll permanent teams: the Port Authorities, the league’s All-Star team that will be dealing out blows and serving justice, one jam at a time; and the Calamity Janes, a heartbreaking crew of rough and rugged rollergirls who will skate over your heart and saddle up for victory.

What you’ll see at a Maine Roller Derby bout The modern evolution of roller derby that has exploded all over the U.S. is a fully-organized, aggressive contact sport where nothing is faked and the athleticism, power, and sportswomanship of the skaters is evident. Yet roller derby bouts offer more than your average sporting event, and the event appeals to fans of all ages.

In addition to the roller derby action, fans will get to hear live music by area bands between bout periods, and can hang out and watch from the beer garden and munch on food from the concession stand. Spectators are encouraged to come down to the trackside floor seating and get right up close to the big hits and aggressive competition.
