Portland, Maine is New England favorite little city. With a metro population of just over 60,000, but with all the culture and events of a big city...Portland is a great place to visit and an even better place to live. Portland has more four-star restaurants than any other city in North America, per capita.

The downtown and Old Port districts welcomes tens of thousands of visitors every year. Many visit Portland via cruise ships, which dock blocks away from the Old Port in the new International Marine Terminal. Others take long weekend up from New York City and Boston. Even more fly into the best little airport in the nation, Portland International Jetport.

You will have your choice of high-end, luxury hotels, bed and breakfast, more traditional hotels and inns, as well of campgrounds and cabin rentals. Summer is gorgeous in Portland, Maine and the ocean is warm enough to swim in, despite what you have heard. Winter also provides a pristine landscape here in northern New England. You can be on a mountain, skiing or snowboarding within 45 minutes of leaving Portland.

Shopping in and around Portland, Maine is also extremely easy. Dozens of bookstores, boutiques, galleries, clothing and department stores are scattered throughout Portland and the Old Port. The outlets of Freeport and Kittery are also less than thirty minutes away, in either direction.
