Cape Elizabeth is a residential, as well as resort town, centered in Casco Bay, moments south of Portland, Maine. Home to Crescent Beach and Fort Williams, containing the famous Portland Headlight lighthouse. Portland Headlight is a must-see stop for any visit to the Portland and Casco Bay region, especially if you are in or near Cape Elizabeth. Not only can you come see this historic lighthouse, but the Fort Williams also offers picnic facilities, hiking opportunities, sports and recreation areas, historic fort structures, and unlimited ocean views. Fort Williams Park is open year round from sunrise to sunset. There is no admission fee. The lighthouse may be easily photographed from many areas within the park. Crescent Beach State Park is a great place to catch some rays on your Maine vacation. But, its also home to some of the bravest surfers in North America, who risk life and limb to surf the Winter swells. Crescent Beach State Park is a classic saltwater beach park with beach grass-studded sand dunes, ocean breezes, herring gulls, picnic areas and views of fishing boats and an offshore island. The park's signature feature and namesake is a mile-long, crescent-shaped beach ideal for strolling and sunbathing, where relatively warm waters and light surf make swimming and boating a pleasure. Cape Elizabeth has several fine hotels on the ocean, as well as bed and breakfast and standard motels or campgrounds to choose from.
